How to calculate nail product cost per client
Start with the price you actually paid, excluding reusable equipment. Divide that purchase price by the usable quantity in the package, then multiply by the amount consumed during one appointment. Add a modest waste allowance only when your records show that opened, spilled, evaporated, cured, or leftover product cannot be used.
Count disposables directly. If a box contains 100 wipes and you use six, the amount used is six. For liquids and gels, weigh or measure a new container and compare it after a known number of appointments. If measuring is impractical, record how many services the container actually lasts and use purchase price divided by observed services.
Keep equipment separate from consumables
A lamp, e-file, desk, dust collector, and chair support many appointments. They should not be entered as though the entire purchase were consumed by one client. Include equipment through your monthly overhead or a documented depreciation method. Files, sanding bands, gloves, wipes, tips, forms, and product used up during the appointment belong in per-service supplies.
When you have totaled every consumable, put the result into the nail service pricing calculator. Review the companion cost-per-service checklist for a repeatable tracking process.
